Field Day Trip to Bletchley Park

As a part of Field Day at Merchant Taylors', the Upper Thirds set out on a trip to Bletchley Park to learn more about the brave codebreakers of World War Two and to see how what they discovered remains relevant in today's digital world.

On a fine Friday morning, the Upper Thirds set out on an expedition to Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes. After an hour of tiresome travel, we arrived at our destination. First up on our agenda was a workshop on cybersecurity. Here we learnt how to make fantastic passphrases and how to secure our information online. After this, we proceeded to go through the intelligence centre, which was an enthralling ride through the rooms of where important code breakers, such as Alan Turing worked!

After we had lunch in the sunny weather, we then had a guided tour by the amazing staff of Bletchley Park. We managed to see Lord Leon's Mansion, which his children then sold off in 1938. To cap off a wonderful day, we had a self guided tour of some of the huts, including Hut 11, where a real Bombe Machine was placed.

Thanks to all the staff who made the trip possible.
