30 ROUNDS

On Friday 4th October, the Royal Navy section went to a Welsh hap boat station to participate in numerous activities, such as windsurfing and rowing. Our group's first activity was rowing. We learnt that the person in the first seat is always the bow and the person closest to the stern is the stroke. At first, we found it hard to stay in time with each other, but eventually got into a rhythm by listening to coxswain, who was calling time. This strengthened our team work and communication skills. After practicing the skills, we raced the other teams. The next session we took part in was windsurfing, which many of us had not done before. We, therefore, found it challenging to balance on the board, whilst maneuvering the sail and many failed attempts ended with us in the water! Although we got quite wet, this was definitely a very fun and new experience. Next on our agenda was raft-building. We have done this activity before at Merchant Taylors’ during CCF, meaning we were able to apply skills we had learnt. These skills included: tying knots and communicating with others. We had to use logs and barrels to create a sustainable raft. Though our raft fell apart, we really enjoyed ourselves and shared lots of laughs whilst swimming in the lake and trying to keep the raft together. Overall, this day helped us bond better, as a section, and learn valuable skills needed, not only in the Royal Navy section, but in life. We are both very excited for our next field day in Portsmouth.
