109 Surf Trip – Fuerteventura This year’s Outdoor Ed trip was to sunny Fuerteventura, one of the most beautiful Canary Islands. With consistent swell, over 300 days of sunshine, white-sand beaches and glassy waves, it’s easy to see why Ms Caulfield chose this place. With a laid-back island culture and boasting a selection of tapas and some of Europe’s best surf breaks, Fuerteventura is known as the ‘Hawaii of Europe’. Throughout the holiday we journeyed to multiple surf spots, charming towns, and hiked various volcanoes. Oscar Lihou-Smith (4ths) When I think back to the trip there are two events that stick out for me. The first of these occurred on one of our final days, when we were surfing on our third and final beach. We had a very long session, which meant we had the chance to surf a vast number of waves. My favourite moment occurred when a wave came in, and four of us stood up and surfed that wave in unison. It truly felt like we had just partaken in a movie scene. Jolan Baxter (U6th) Independent School Ski Championships Trip Les Deux Alpes, France On the morning of December 12, a group of eighteen boys and three members of staff departed for Les Deux Alpes, France, to compete in the International Schools’ Ski Championships. The weather was against us from the beginning as aggressive winds meant many of the lifts were shut, restricting training. Nevertheless, boys across all age groups excelled against strong competition from schools including Bradfield, Whitgift and St Paul’s Juniors in the slalom, giant slalom, and team parallel slalom disciplines. We came away with a gold in the U18 giant slalom, won byWillemRedman, our captain. Ms R A Caulfield Ski Trip This year we also took 45 students to Les Deux Alpes, France. The boys were in lessons morning and afternoon and improved dramatically! After the first day the beginner group was trying small jumps. The top few groups had an afternoon trying ski racing, which was great fun. We were extremely lucky with the weather, having fresh powder and bluebird days! Ms R A Caulfield
