It showcased the main features of my design with the purpose of encouraging the government to invest in my strategy. The other part of the submission involved explanatory notes and calculations, justifying the details of my design and how they solve the problem.  Samir Sardana (U6) Cambridge Chemistry Challenge This challenging 90-minute paper required the logical application of A Level concepts to solve complex problems. Patrick Brown received the Roentgenium Award, placing him among the top 50 students nationally. Edward Cross, Henry Gadsdon, Christopher Gardner, Ankit Gupta and Barnaby Roberts each received a Gold Award, placing them in the top 9% of students nationally.  Mr M P Powell Science Olympiads This year saw the school’s greatest ever success in the British Physics Olympiad. Top Gold Awards, given to those in the top 100 nationally, went to Rehan Sheikh, Ashutosh Khatri, Samir Sardana, and Felix Chen. Christopher Gardner and Rehan Sheikh won Gold Awards. In the Chemistry Olympiad, seven students won Gold Awards: Patrick Brown, Edward Cross, Henry Gadsdon, Arun Hearn, Pandias Margaronis, Amaar Sardharwalla, and Christopher Gardner. Christopher was the first student from MTS in many years to achieve Gold Awards in both Physics and Chemistry. MTS Sixth Former wins University of Sheffield French Translation Competition Theo Berenzweig won the University of Sheffield’s French Translation Competition, one of the most prestigious nationwide translation competitions for the Lower Sixth. The translation was an extract from the book Histoire de ta bêtise (Paris: Pauvert, 2019) by François Bégaudeau. Most years there are over 1,000 submissions and this year saw the greatest number of submissions on record. The Arkwright Scholarship The Arkwright Scholarship is an engineering scholarship awarded on the basis of an application, aptitude test, and interviews. This year five boys at Merchant Taylors’ were awarded an Arkwright scholarship: Amar Ranauta, Thom Haynes, Ishaan Aggarwal, Issey Rodriguez, and Myan Vaghji. UK Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge KishanRyley,MosesNg, andVictorHardijzer reached the final of the Computational ThinkingChallenge, placing themamong the 56 highest-achieving students out of 22,722 participants. In the 14-16 age category Moses Ng achieved a joint third-place medal, which was presented at a prizegiving ceremony at Hertford College, Oxford.
