Taylorian 2020

56 W ith the school going ‘virtual’ in the summer Term, the co- curriculum quickly adapted with over 60 clubs, activities and societies offered across the year groups. The original staples of CCF, DofE and Community Service were present, but the shift to online offerings also saw our staff set up new clubs and opportunities, including Lego, Home Cooking, Philosophy on Film, and Yoga for health and well-being. The staff body took up the unique challenge to offer boys new experiences, with over twenty new clubs to choose from. At the time of writing, these new opportunities have all been proving very popular. One club now has over 263 participants taking part! Acceptance of all was the over-riding theme of an assembly presented to the Third and Upper Third Forms during the autumn term. Boys were encouraged to re - member that, although we might identify with different cultures, religions and sexu- alities, we work together as a community within the School and in wider society. Mr MW Pacey S tonewall is the British charity which campaigns for the equality of les - bian, gay, bisexual, transgender and otherwise queer-identifying (LGBT+) peo- ple. The organisation actively encourages LGBT+ people to work together with so- called ‘straight allies’ to ensure acceptance for all in our society. By having a Stonewall group in our School, we not only have the opportunity to provide support to boys who are LGBT+, we also have the chance to educate the wider school community on issues affecting LGBT+ people and on mat- ters of equality in general. The School’s Stonewall group played two distinct roles in the past academic year. We provided a weekly meeting space for LGBT+ boys and staff, along with our straight allies, to come together to discuss issues affecting young LGBT+ people. In addition, we celebrated LGBT+ History Month in February with a special school- wide screen saver of gay British author E.M. Forster. This year’s literary theme of ‘Poetry, Prose and Plays’ was supported by library staff with a display of LGBT+- themed books. It was also a week in which to remind all students that there are more Stonewall Airfix Club
