Junior History Club Castle Competition

The highlight of the Junior History Club calendar, the MTS Castle competition, took place over the last half term. A group of 18 artisanal castle builders have regularly gathered in the DT block or worked at home to create some fantastic Medieval castles out of recycled materials.

Our grateful thanks to the DT department for graciously hosting us and to all the DT staff for assisting the participants in using the equipment. All the students worked tremendously hard and Mr Evans, our expert judge, was highly impressed with the standard of entries this year. All those that took part will be recognised with certificates at the start of next term and the castles will be displayed and entered into a public vote on open day.

Mr Evans had the unenviable task of choosing the top three from such a strong field. In third place was Krish Arya (3rds) with a design that showed how Square Keeps evolved from Motte and Baileys. His crenelated curtain wall with battlements and portcullis particularly stood out. In second place was a Motte and Bailey by Alex Byron and Rian V. (3rds) that showed great accuracy, particularly their intricate palisade.  In first place was Hrim D. (U3rds) with a highly accurate and very detailed Motte and Bailey. Prizes for the top three will be awarded at the start of next term and the competition will return next year. In the meantime, Junior History Club will be back in September with a whole range of fun activities that explore all sorts of topics beyond the lower school History syllabus. 3rds, U3rds and 4ths very welcome – Monday lunchtimes HY2.91.
