Shine School Media Awards
On Monday 1st July 2024, the historic Stationers’ Hall on Ave Maria Lane hosted the Shine School Media Awards.
This prestigious event saw pupils from numerous secondary schools being recognised for producing different forms of media such as newspapers, magazines or in our case, a podcast.
For the first time, Merchant Taylors’ School was represented in this competition by an entry made by the following students:
- Ruben S (L6th)
- Daniel D (L6th)
- Tanush W (L6th)
- Veer T (L6th)
- Giuseppe M (L6th)
- Matthew S (L6th)
This event included workshops from esteemed guests who gave us insights on how to improve our podcast, apprenticeships we could pursue, and tips on how the media industry has adapted and changed due to technological advancements.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony which recognised the creativity and innovation of students. The awards were judged by high profile industry professionals. We emerged victorious in the category of Best Audio.
The podcast is called Echoes of Thought with the title of the first (and hopefully not last) episode being “AI – The next step for humanity or the last?” which is available on Spotify. It took a long time to get the first podcast planned and recorded, but we persisted as a group. We hope that this inspires younger students to make their voices heard within the school and beyond, producing similar forms of media outlets.
