History

History is taught in an impressive new building named after the great twentieth-century historian, and old Merchant Taylor, E.H. Carr.
The History department is noted for its exceptional academic record, with many boys gaining entry to Oxford and Cambridge in recent years.
There is the Bulstrode Whitelocke Society which has recently welcomed a number of world-class historians.
MTS historians have also enjoyed great success in national essay competitions, with boys featuring among the winning entries in the Vellacott Prize, awarded by Peterhouse, Cambridge, in both 2017 and 2020.
